Documenting a Journey for Cleaner Oceans

Client

Ocean Mission and Sidetracked Magazine

Challenge

Document a scientific sailing expedition investigating microplastic pollution around Iceland while creating compelling visual storytelling for editorial publication.

Approach

Together with Ocean Mission, I was sailing the coast of Iceland from Húsavik in the north to Reykjavik on Opal, a beautiful wooden schooner. Our mission was to research microplastic pollution in the waters around Iceland, doing six microplastic surveys and doing two beach clean-ups along the way. My goal was to document the journey, take photographs that would be used for an article in Sidetrack magazine, and help spread awareness.

Outcome

Produced a comprehensive visual story published through Sidetracked Magazine, helping raise awareness about marine pollution and the importance of protecting Iceland's coastal ecosystems.
