A Sharp Backyard: ten years in Iceland

26 January 2025 — A Sharp Backyard

To kick things off is a brand new photo I took two weeks ago. And it's a really emotional one for me. Why? After having lived and photographed in Iceland for a decade now, I just bought my first house here. It's over 100 years old, and it's pretty small, but this is my new backyard, maybe forever.
This place is far away from almost everything else in the world, and far away from everyone else too. But it's close to where I am writing this from, to where my fiancée is next door painting our kitchen, close to where our first baby will take her first steps, and to where we just bought our first big human box to fit into when it's too stormy to be outside.
It's so close, I even took this photo from our patio. We have one of those too now. And all the mountains are looking down on it. So I'll be heading up there with my skis soon. And that’s why we’re moving here. So I wanted to start this year with a print from home.
1 October 2025 — I first moved to Iceland 10 years ago

I've been up and down and through these lands for a decade now and they've made me have fun and take photos and age.
I only came for a scuba diving job in 2°C water to get paid for a few months. I got fired after three. But I decided to stay a little longer and went on to glacier guiding and ice climbing, then bus driving, then trekking, then everything guiding. I took photos for my family. Mainly of my friends and of landscapes I thought looked alien enough. But sometimes I started getting paid to take photos of my tours.
Now I’ve applied for Icelandic citizenship.
I sometimes get paid a lot more to take much better photos.
But we bought a loan to a big box in an amazing small fjord with my fiancée, who moved here a year after I said that I’m staying. She loves it here too. We now have a clone together. She can’t walk yet. But wherever she will go, she will forever be from the north of Iceland. And that’s pretty cool.
Were planning on staying. It just feels right. Like it did from the very beninging.
28 November 2025 — The Timeless Ones

It’s been a year this year too, and it’s been a special one here.
Now, a decade after first moving to Iceland, I’ve spent almost the entire year without leaving it. I’ve been looking a lot for a photographic meaning that I felt like I lost a few years back, and this year, moving out of the big city,
I found all of it again.
Amplified and multiplied.
Still discovering new places, while revisiting the familiar ones with a fresh sense of purpose and artistic determination that keeps this piece of rock exciting forever. I’ve been out shooting a lot to interpret what that all means, and to deliver you one of these prints every month.
Now the whole collection is finally here.
A lot of freshness with a few classics, to all go down in history as the timeless ones.
And that’s what this collection is about. Photographicus Meaningus Maximus.
For me, print is the final form of photography, and definitely the most personal.
So here I invite you to travel together with my photographic world.
And be timeless together.
At least for a while.
