The stories behind the Greenland photographs

The Red Sails of Greenland — 10 November 2024

A red-sailed boat reflected beneath a large iceberg in Greenland

Twenty five nights I spent photo-tour guiding with this ship trying to fit it into my camera in a way that would make this landscape justice. One night, just around 1am as the light of the never setting sun got low enough to dip below the clouds, the wind stopped and the icebergs cloned themselves in their reflections. That’s when this magic happened.

A boat so cold — 8 December 2025

A boat so cold it leaves a trail of ice behind it.

Sailing around in the Arctic midnight sun for a month, the most unique conditions quickly became the ones when it’s not that full-night sunset, but the world closes in and only gives you its nearest bits to focus on instead. Life and photography become about the little things.

Surrounded by icebergs as big as some small towns, following us from just behind the fog, a few pieces of broken glacier are just what is needed to amplify the existence of our boat and make it seem all too peaceful.
