The Story
Sailing between the pieces of what once was the majestic ice cap of Greenland, a massive moving landscape that will never look the same again. Twenty-five nights I spent outside this coast, trying to document a quickly fading natural history. With the pressure on our planet from civilisations and cultures so far away, they will never be seen in these lands, but their influence is still felt here more than anywhere else. Both in the melting ice, but also in the local culture. The glaciers are losing their weight, which makes the locals lose their way. Dog sleds are replaced with snowmobiles, fresh fish with frozen pizza, sealskin jackets with Fjällräven, their old songs with Netflix, and their kayaks, the boats that were invented here to survive the icy waters, are replaced with cruise ships.
It's a change for both good and bad, for convenience but also unhappiness. It's impossible to change its course alone, but that's why it's so important to document. For one of the last free cultures out there, still in touch with nature. Trying to put the puzzle back together.
